There are no park officers over there and in case of getting stuck the evacuation is very difficult unless your operator knows how to deal with such a situation. Unguided tours are not allowed for Ausangate trek.

Choquequirao Trek

There are dozens of Incan ruins but the most famous is Machu Picchu due to its uniqueness. Many know about Machu Picchu ruins and the trek trail leading to Machu Picchu but very few know about the little sister of Machu Picchu, the Choquequirao ruins and Choquequirao trek. Machu Picchu has a twin city, an enigmatic Incan cradle of Gold known as Citadel of Choquequirao. The trail leading to the cradle of Gold in the Apurimac Valley is known as Choquequirao trek which required a good effort to hike.

It requires four to five days to complete this trek. Altitude sickness is less of a problem here as it doesn’t possess such high altitude like Ausangate trek. It demands a high level of physical strength and stamina. The ascents and descents on this track are so rigorous that they can wear anyone out such as 1500 meters long angled descent quickly followed by an 1800 meters steep ascent through the valley that can exhaust any strong soul. Without a question, Choquequirao trek is stunningly beautiful but one should avoid sole adventure.

Salkantay Trek

Salkantay trek is one of the best alternatives to the crowded Inca trail leading to the exalted fallen fortress of Machu Picchu. It takes 5 days to complete this magnificent trail with an average elevation of 3500 meters above sea level. This trekking trail is moderately challenging as compared to Ausangate trek and Choquequirao trek but is a bit longer than them. The Salkantay trek is long but you will enjoy the diversity it contains. You’ll see some incredible narrow steep and unpaved passes. It presents refreshing views of stunning glaciers, pristine lakes and lush green meadows that no one can forget. It’s not a good idea to plan a hiking tour in the rainy season.
