  • Machu Picchu

We shall pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to head out on our two-day hiking tour of Machu Picchu along the Short Inca Trail. We shall leave the city of Cusco at 6:00 AM in the morning on our private transport. Our first destination for the day shall be the ancient Inca town of Ollantaytambo in the sacred valley 60 kilometers away from Cusco city. We shall take the Expedition Train from the train station in this old Quechua town towards the starting point of our trek – KM 104. KM 104 is the checkpoint at Chachabamba in the Sacred Valley. The elevation at this KM 104 is about 2150 meters above sea level. We shall start trekking along the Short Inca Trail from this point.

This trail stretches for 16 kilometers before we arrive at Inti Punku. However, these sixteen kilometers shall give you the truest reflection of the Classic Inca Trail. We start by walking over to the other side of the Vilcanota River before taking the trek along the southern bank of the famous Wilka Mayu or the Sacred River. The ascent begins as we trek on the mountains preceding the indigenous cloud forest of the Peruvian Andes. It shall take us three hours before we arrive at a beautiful waterfall before the site of the historic ruins of WinayWayna. We shall have lunch and explore these amazing ruins which have beautiful views of the valley as well. We shall then continue our journey towards the Sun Gate where we shall reach late afternoon. You will get the first view of the impressive ruins of the lost city of Machu Picchu. We can take pictures in the beautiful golden light of the afternoon Andean sun before moving towards our final destination for the day, Aguas Calientes which is 2000 meters above sea level. This is the village where we shall stay for the night. Hotel bookings and accommodation arrangements will have already been made upon booking of this tour with us.

The next morning, we shall leave early in the morning to reach Machupicchu. We will enter Machu Picchu as soon as the entry is opened at 06:00 AM . You will be given a guided tour of the Citadel. It houses some wonderful pieces of Inca architecture, great terraces and towers. It is the site once used for ceremonial purposes by the Inca royalties and the place where a formidable fortress stood. We will have enough time to explore this amazing historical Citadel before taking a bus ride back to the city of Cusco, the former Inca capital itself.
